Ikenotaira Onsen

Ikenotaira Onsen serves a spa community in the Myoko highland area of Niigata Prefecture, where multiple volcanic peaks — Myoko-san, Hiuchi-ga-take, and the volcanic chain of the Niigata-Nagano highlands — create a geothermally active landscape of exceptional mineral spring diversity whose thermal resources have supported traditional onsen culture since at least the Edo period, when mountain spa villages in the volcanic highlands served travelers on the routes between the Echigo coast and the Nagano interior.
