Uenohara Onsen Yamanashi

Uenohara, at the easternmost tip of Yamanashi Prefecture bordering Kanagawa and Tokyo, is a small mountain gateway city on the Katsura River where the Chuo Expressway and railway descend from the Tokyo metropolitan area into the Yamanashi mountain valleys, surrounded by forested ridges of the Kanto mountain range. Uenohara Onsen Yamanashi draws on sodium and bicarbonate thermal waters from the geothermal resources of the Kanto mountain geological zone, offering relaxing mountain baths just one hour from central Tokyo that provide the earliest mountain spa experience available on the Chuo transport corridor heading toward the Fuji region. The Uenohara Jomon no Mori archaeological park, where extensive Early Jomon period (6000-5000 BCE) pit dwellings have been excavated and partially reconstructed, and the terraced blueberry farms of the surrounding mountain slopes create a surprisingly deep destination for eastern Yamanashi thermal visitors.
