Dorogawa Onsen is located in Tenkawa village in the heart of the Yoshino-Omine mountain range in southern Nara Prefecture, at the base of Mount Omine—the sacred peak of Japanese mountain asceticism (Shugendo) where yamabushi mountain monks have practiced rigorous spiritual training for over a millennium, making this one of Japan's most spiritually charged onsen destinations.
