Onga Onsen Fukuoka

Onga Onsen Fukuoka is located in Onga Town along the lower reaches of the Onga River in northern Fukuoka Prefecture, a river that drains the historic Chikuhō coalfield and whose valley supported the rice cultivation and coal-transport communities that formed the backbone of Meiji-era industrial Japan. The chloride-rich hot spring waters emerging from the alluvial and sedimentary geology of the lower Onga basin provide warm, saline therapeutic baths continuing a tradition of restorative bathing that served the physical demands of generations of miners, farmers, and dock workers who depended on the river valley's economy.
