Otomodachi no Yu Tobata

Otomodachi no Yu Tobata is a community hot spring facility located in the Tobata district of Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, a historic working-class neighbourhood that was the site of the Tobata Casting Company — one of Japan's earliest modern iron foundries — and whose compact traditional townscape of shotengai shopping arcades and neighbourhood temples preserved the close-knit community culture of Japan's industrial labour movement through the 20th century. The chloride-rich thermal waters emerge from the geothermal resources beneath Kitakyushu's complex industrial geology, providing warm mineral baths that honour the bathing traditions of the steelworkers and foundry workers who formed the social fabric of Tobata's tight community.
