Choshi Onsen Chiba

Choshi Onsen Chiba is located in Choshi City, at the northeastern tip of the Chiba Peninsula where the Tone River — the largest river in eastern Japan — empties into the Pacific Ocean, creating an extraordinary confluence of river, sea, and coastal plain that supports one of Japan's most productive fishing industries. The chloride-rich coastal hot spring waters draw from geothermal resources deep beneath the Choshi coastal plain, producing saline mineral baths whose composition reflects the surrounding sea — Choshi is famous for its exceptional production of soy sauce (Yamasa and Higeta breweries have operated here since the 17th century), katsuobushi (dried bonito), and the fresh Pacific fish offloaded at Choshi's major fishing port, making mineral bathing and extraordinary seafood culture inseparable aspects of the Choshi experience. The dramatic Inubosaki Cape lighthouse — standing on basalt cliffs at the point where the Pacific Oyashio and Kuroshio currents visibly meet in contrasting water colours — provides one of Chiba's most atmospheric natural spectacles as a backdrop to the coastal hot spring experience.
