Soothing — neither hot nor cold, perfect balance.
Loaded with major ions — the essential minerals (Ca, Mg).
Dense, salty water — you float without effort.
On the northern shore of Lake Hamana — a vast brackish lagoon connected to the Pacific that forms the visual and cultural centrepiece of western Shizuoka — Kanzanji Onsen overlooks a landscape of shimmering water, fishing platforms, and the distant silhouette of the Enshu Sea horizon. The sodium-chloride waters emerge at a gentle 35 °C with a slightly alkaline pH of 7.4, producing a warm, mineralised bath particularly well suited to the long, slow soaking that the lakeside setting inspires.
Kanzanji is celebrated as much for its vistas as for its waters: open-air rotenburo pools positioned to face the lake allow bathers to watch the light shift across Hamana's surface from morning mist to crimson sunset. The sodium-chloride composition lends a lingering warmth and a faint salinity reminiscent of the coast just beyond the lagoon's inlet, connecting the onsen experience to the oceanic character of this stretch of the Tōkai coastline between Nagoya and Shizuoka.
