Akaishi Onsen Shirakaba-so is a mountain hot spring facility in Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture, within the Southern Alps of central Honshu, where iron-rich carbonated spring waters emerge in a high-altitude environment of Japanese birch forests and alpine vegetation. The ferruginous springs tint the water a characteristic reddish-brown from dissolved iron bicarbonate and are prized in Japanese onsen tradition for their blood-warming and invigorating properties, particularly welcome after hiking in the surrounding alpine terrain.
