Yuwaku Onsen is a picturesque hot spring village 20 kilometres east of Kanazawa in Ishikawa Prefecture, long cherished as a retreat for the Kaga clan's samurai aristocracy and later associated with the painter and poet Takehisa Yumeji, whose museum now stands in the village. The sodium-alkaline spring waters flowing into small traditional ryokan inns sheltered by forested hillsides have a distinctly soft, skin-smoothing character, and the intimate scale of the village preserves the quiet elegance of a Meiji-era thermal resort.
