Kemeri is a historic spa district within the coastal resort city of Jūrmala, set among pine forests and dune meadows on the Gulf of Riga, roughly 30 kilometres west of the Latvian capital. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Kemeri was one of the most fashionable health resorts in the Baltic provinces, drawing visitors to its unique combination of sulfurous mud and mineral spring water. The grand Kemeri Hotel, a landmark of interwar Latvian architecture, still stands at the heart of the village.

The Kemeri Health Resort channels sodium-chloride water at 40 °C — warm and distinctly saline, with a striking pH of 4.0 that marks these as among the more acidic natural mineral waters in the Baltic region. This acidity, combined with high mineral salinity, gives the water a taut, mineral intensity quite different from neutral thermal springs. The surrounding landscape — ancient bog, birch forest, Baltic light — provides the austere, contemplative setting that has always defined Kemeri's identity: a place where nature is the architecture, and water is the text.

Insider tip — Treat yourself to a thermal break at Kemeri Health Resort Jūrmala, where the sulfurous water reaches 40°C.
