Banje Igalo is a long-established wellness and thalasso institute on the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro, where the unique peloid mud of Igalo Bay, a blue-grey mineral clay deposited by submarine springs and filtered through the bay's exceptional biological system, has been part of the bathing tradition since the nineteenth century. The Institute of Igalo was the favoured resort of the Yugoslav political elite and Josip Broz Tito spent regular recuperation periods here, a fact that gave Igalo a particular status in the social geography of socialist Yugoslavia and attracted visitors from across Eastern Europe throughout the Cold War decades. The iodine-rich bay waters, the renowned peloid mud tradition, and the position overlooking one of the most beautiful natural harbours in the Mediterranean make Igalo one of the Adriatic's most storied and historically resonant thermal destinations.
