Aguas Termales Atzimba

Aguas Termales Atzimba is a geothermal thermal resort in Uruapan in the state of Michoacán, Mexico, located at the edge of the volcanic Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt — one of the world's most active volcanic arcs — where geothermal waters heated by the same volcanic system that produced the dramatic Parícutin volcano in 1943 (one of the youngest volcanoes on earth, which erupted from a cornfield and buried two villages) emerge for therapeutic bathing in a landscape shaped by extraordinary volcanic activity. Uruapan, whose name means 'place where flowers are eternally fresh' in the Purépecha language, is famous for its avocado production — the city is situated at the heart of Mexico's largest avocado-growing region — and for the spectacular Barranca del Cupatitzio National Park, where the Cupatitzio River emerges from underground springs in a lush tropical gorge. The geothermal bathing of Atzimba connects visitors to the raw volcanic energy of the Michoacán Volcanic Field, one of Mexico's most geologically spectacular landscapes.
