Tolantongo

Grutas de Tolantongo in the Mezquital valley of Hidalgo, Mexico, is one of the most spectacular natural hot spring destinations in the Americas, where sulphurous geothermal water at 38°C flows from cave springs directly into a dramatic blue-green river canyon, filling a series of natural pools, cave grottos, and canyon-wall channels carved into the tropical limestone cliffs. The site, on indigenous Hñähñu (Otomi) communal land, offers an extraordinary combination of geothermal activity, karst cave systems, tropical canyon scenery, and the living culture of one of Mexico's oldest indigenous peoples. The ethereal blue-green colour of the thermally heated river, the canyon walls rising on both sides, and the cave springs emerging from the cliff face make Tolantongo one of Mexico's most visually overwhelming natural wonders.
