Beitostølen Helsesportsenter (BHSS) in the Valdres valley of Innlandet county is one of Norway's most respected rehabilitation and sports medicine centres, combining mineral spring bathing with specialised physical rehabilitation programmes in one of Norway's finest mountain environments. Set at the foot of Jotunheimen — the Land of the Giants, Norway's highest mountain range — the centre uses bicarbonate spring water in its hydrotherapy pools as part of physical rehabilitation and elite sports training programmes. The Beitostølen area is celebrated as one of Norway's premier cross-country skiing destinations in winter and a superb mountain hiking base in summer, and the integration of serious therapeutic bathing with elite sports training in this extraordinary mountain setting gives BHSS a character unlike any conventional spa. The surrounding peaks of Jotunheimen, including Galdhøpiggen at 2,469 metres (Norway's highest), create a landscape of Nordic grandeur.
