Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland near Rotorua is New Zealand's most colorfully dramatic geothermal zone, where silica-rich hydrothermal activity creates extraordinary chromatic pools — the vivid green Champagne Pool, the saffron-and-orange Artist's Palette, and the brilliant Primrose Terrace — within the active Taupo Volcanic Zone. The Champagne Pool, with its 74°C champagne-bubble carbon dioxide effervescence and gold-and-silver mineral rim, is among the world's most photogenic geothermal features. Lady Knox Geyser erupts punctually at 10:15 am daily, while the surrounding landscape of bubbling mud pools, steaming vents, and silica terraces make Waiotapu one of the world's great geothermal landscapes.
