Te Aroha Mineral Spas is a historic natural spring facility at the foot of Mount Te Aroha in the Matamata-Piako District of New Zealand's Waikato Region, where bicarbonate-mineral waters from the world's largest known natural hot soda water spring — the Mokena Geyser, which erupts every 40 minutes — have been channelled into private bathing cubicles in a Victorian spa complex operating since 1883 and recently restored to its heritage character. The Te Aroha Domain, established as a spa reserve in the 19th century by the colonial government for the therapeutic use of the mineral springs, contains beautiful Victorian bath houses, museum, and gardens at the base of the forest-clad Te Aroha mountain, creating one of New Zealand's most atmospherically complete examples of Victorian thermal resort heritage.
