In Saint-Égrève, just outside Grenoble, Les Thermes du Sultan occupies a building with an unlikely past: a former car garage that became a wedding venue and retail space before its transformation into a wellness spa. Originally founded in the nearby town of Rives, the spa moved to this address in February 2019 after rebuilding from a fire that destroyed its reception area in September 2017.

The venue blends two distinct worlds: a traditional Moroccan-style hammam, all mosaics and vaulted ceilings, and a Scandinavian-style chalet built for sauna sessions in a quieter, wood-lined setting. This North-South contrast, between humid oriental warmth and Nordic timber calm, makes it a distinctive stop among Isère's spas, just a short drive from central Grenoble and the surrounding mountains.

Insider tip — Les Thermes du Sultan brings authentic North African hammam tradition to the Alpine city of Grenoble. The steam rooms and warm water basins are scented with eucalyptus and traditional black soap, creating a deeply cleansing ritual. After skiing in the nearby Chartreuse or Belledonne ranges, this hammam is a superb choice for muscle recovery. Treatments include traditional kessa scrubs and argan oil massages.
