İçəri Hamam — the Inner Bath — is a historic hamam located on Böyük Qala Street near the fortress gates of the Icherisheher (inner city) of Baku, the UNESCO World Heritage walled city that preserves the medieval Azerbaijani capital within its ancient battlements on the Caspian Sea shore, where this traditional bathhouse represents the Islamic bathing heritage of one of the Caspian world's most historically significant cities. The Icherisheher — Old City — of Baku is one of the best-preserved medieval Islamic urban ensembles in the South Caucasus, containing the Palace of the Shirvanshah dynasty, the Maiden Tower, numerous mosques, caravanserais, and historic bathhouses that reflect the city's prominence as a Silk Road trading center and the capital of the Shirvan Khanate. The inner city hamam continues the tradition of public bathing within the historic core of Baku, offering visitors and local residents a connection to the Azerbaijani thermal bathing heritage that shaped urban life in the South Caucasus for over a millennium.
