Asamushi Gensen Koen Ashiyu is located in the Asamushi district, Aomori Prefecture, on the shores of Mutsu Bay. Its sodium-chloride thermal water reaches 40°C (104°F). An indoor bath, an outdoor rotenburo bath and a sauna are accessible here.
Insider tip — Asamushi Onsen is one of Tohoku's most beloved traditional onsen resorts — a string of classic ryokan along the Mutsu Bay shore where volcanic springs have been used for over 1,000 years. The 'gensen koen' (source park) ashiyu lets visitors soak their feet for free while watching fishing boats on the bay; from here, the Tsugaru Peninsula is visible across the water. Asamushi's smooth sodium-chloride waters are reputedly excellent for skin; the town's most famous former visitor was Osamu Dazai, who wrote here in the 1930s.
