Insider tip — Tabayama-mura is one of Yamanashi's smallest and most remote villages, population under 700, deep in the Taba River valley. Nomekoi Yu ('Beautiful Spring' in the local mountain dialect) serves hikers and cyclists on the Tama River Source Trail connecting Yamanashi's alpine interior to Tokyo's Okutama watershed.
