Nemachi Onsen is located on the island of Yakushima, southern Japan, a UNESCO-listed nature reserve. The sulfurous, slightly acidic water (pH 6.5) feeds an indoor bath, a rotenburo-style outdoor bath and a sauna.

Insider tip — Nemachi Onsen is a sulfurous thermal bath on Yakushima Island (Tokyo), near the port of Miyanoura. Yakushima is among the rainiest places in Japan (4,000-10,000 mm/year), which feeds a network of crystal-clear rivers and unique temperate rainforests. The onsen there are an indispensable comfort after a hike in the rain.
