Okajo Tennen Onsen, also known as Tsuki no Shizuku, is located in Taketa, Oita Prefecture. Its sodium-chloride water reaches around 40°C, with an indoor bath, an outdoor rotenburo bath and a sauna.
Insider tip — 'Tsuki no Shizuku' (月の雫 — drops of moonlight) at Okajo Tennen Onsen, named for the magnificent Oka Castle ruins (岡城) in Taketa city. Oka Castle inspired Rentaro Taki's 1901 piano composition 'Kojo no Tsuki' (荒城の月 — Moon over the Ruined Castle) — one of Japan's most beloved melodies, now an internationally recognized symbol of Japanese lyrical tradition. 'Drops of moonlight' in the castle's shadow is a perfect evocation: soaking in volcanic water while the moonlit castle walls stand in ruins above, exactly as Taki imagined when he composed his masterpiece.
