Rojin Ikoi no Ie (Ogonkawa Onsen, Hakuchoso) is located in Zao, Miyagi Prefecture, a volcanic region known for its mountain hot spring resorts. The sulfurous water emerges at 44°C, pH 6.5. The site includes an indoor bath, an outdoor rotenburo bath and a sauna.
Insider tip — The Ogonkawa Onsen, the golden river spring of Hakuchoso lodge, takes its name from the sulfur-laden golden streams that cascade from the Zao volcanic crater lake into the Shiroishi River valley below. Zao-machi at the volcanic massif base is home to the Zao Fox Village where over 200 wild foxes roam a hillside enclosure, one of Miyagi most eccentric and beloved wildlife attractions.
