Kitaura Onsen (Kitauraso) is a hot spring facility in Namekata, on the shore of Lake Kitaura, Ibaraki Prefecture. The sodium-chloride water flows at 41°C, pH 7.3. The site combines an indoor bath, an outdoor rotenburo bath and a sauna.
Insider tip — Kitauraso serves the shores of Lake Kitaura in Namekata City, a vast coastal lagoon where freshwater from the Naka River system meets the tidal brackish shallows of the Kashima coast. Lake Kitaura is one of Japan most important wetland habitats for migratory waterfowl, and the fishing communities around its shores have harvested freshwater clams and eels for generations.
