Rusutsu Onsen is located in Rusutsu village, on the island of Hokkaido. Its sulfurous water rises at 44°C and feeds an indoor bath, an outdoor rotenburo and a sauna.
Insider tip — Rusutsu Onsen lies in the volcanic belt of southwestern Hokkaido near the famous Rusutsu ski resort, drawing sulfurous geothermal waters from beneath the Shiribeshi volcanic zone. The milky, slightly sulfuric water is perfect for warming skiers and snowboarders after a day on the slopes. Summer visitors enjoy the contrast of lush green mountain scenery with hot steaming baths. The onsen is especially popular during the winter ski season when the resort draws international guests.
