Sasayuri no Yu, in Ena, Gifu, draws bicarbonate water at 40°C amid the mountains of Gifu Prefecture. Indoor bath, outdoor rotenburo and sauna are available.
Insider tip — Sasayuri no Yu, the bamboo-lily spring, serves the Kushihara district of Ena City where the narrow Kiso River gorge cuts through the volcanic and sedimentary geology of the Kiso foothills. Ena City is the site of the Enakyō gorge — one of Japan most dramatic artificial lake gorges created by the Ena Dam on the Kiso River — whose flooded valley now offers boat tours through submerged forest landscapes and whose canyon walls support colonies of the sasayuri lily (Lilium japonicum) that gives this spring its poetic name.
