The heat and acidity rule out bathing, but the spring offers a striking geological spectacle.
The boiling water, coloured by iron oxides, flows into lowland tropical rainforest that contrasts strikingly with the chemical intensity of the vent. Ochre and rust-coloured mineral deposits around the outlets attest to the vigour of the geochemical processes at work.
