Tatta Pani Kashmir

Tatta Pani — Hot Water in Urdu — in Azad Kashmir is a natural thermal spring on the banks of the Jhelum river, downstream from Muzaffarabad in one of Pakistan's most scenically beautiful mountain regions, where the sulphurous spring water emerges at 52°C directly onto the riverbank and into the shallow river itself, creating naturally warm bathing zones in the rushing torrent. The Jhelum river valley in Azad Kashmir is surrounded by densely forested hills of deodar cedar, pine and walnut, with peaks reaching 4,000–5,000 metres on the disputed Line of Control with Indian-administered Kashmir. The therapeutic sulphurous waters have been used by local Kashmiri communities for generations for rheumatic and skin conditions. The extraordinary mountain landscape of Azad Kashmir, with its traditional Kashmiri villages, ancient mosques and border trekking routes, gives Tatta Pani a geographical context of compelling beauty.
