Naleczow is a romantic Polish spa town in the Lublin Voivodeship, set in a landscape of ravines, gardens, and forest parks carved by the Bystra stream through the Lublin Upland, where ferruginous and bicarbonate mineral spring waters have been part of the local bathing tradition since the late 18th century and the resort was developed in the 19th century by the Warsaw intelligentsia. The writer Boleslaw Prus — author of The Doll, the masterpiece of Polish Realist literature — spent many summers in Naleczow, drawn by the ferruginous mineral waters and the restful atmosphere, and his home is now a museum in the spa park; the Nobel Prize winner Henryk Sienkiewicz also stayed here. The Naleczow mineral spring park, with its 19th-century wooden villas, mineral drinking pavilions, and English landscape garden, preserves an atmosphere of Polish literary and intellectual history unique among European spa towns — a place where the history of Polish Realist literature and the iron spring tradition are inseparably intertwined.

Insider tip — Bolesław Prus, author of The Doll (a masterpiece of Polish realism), lived and took the cure here — his house is now a museum. Sienkiewicz (Nobel Prize in Literature) came here too. Thermal bathing for the Polish intelligentsia.
