Termas do Carapacho is a unique thermal bathing facility on the island of Graciosa in the Azores, the flattest and least-visited of the nine Azorean islands, where volcanic chloride-rich thermal waters emerge from the ocean floor and are channeled into carved rock pools directly facing the open Atlantic Ocean. The thermal pools of Carapacho, set within the basaltic volcanic cliff face at the ocean's edge, offer one of the most dramatic and geologically authentic bathing experiences in the Portuguese Atlantic, with the warm mineral water contrasting vividly with the deep blue of the surrounding ocean. Graciosa, the least touched by mass tourism of all the Azores, preserves its original thermal and volcanic landscape in a state of pristine authenticity that larger islands have lost, making Carapacho one of the last genuinely wild ocean thermal experiences in Europe.
