Covasna Thermal Spa is a mineral spring wellness facility in Covasna, the county seat of Covasna County in the heart of the Szekely Land of eastern Transylvania, a region so extraordinarily rich in mineral spring resources that Covasna has earned the poetic title of the Town of a Thousand Springs, referring to the dozens of natural carbon dioxide-rich and ferruginous mineral springs that emerge from the volcanic geology of the eastern Carpathian basin in a concentration of geothermal mineral wealth matched nowhere else in Romania and perhaps anywhere in southeastern Europe. The Covasna area's springs range from cold carbonated mineral waters to warm iron-rich therapeutic springs, used since at least the 18th century for cardiovascular, metabolic, and gynecological conditions in a tradition of Romanian and Szekely balneotherapy that has made Covasna County the center of Romania's mineral water bottling industry, producing the famous Borsec and Covasna mineral water brands recognized throughout central Europe. The bicarbonate-ferruginous spring waters of this facility invite therapeutic bathing in a culturally distinctive Szekely community where Hungarian language, Unitarian church tradition, and the folk art of carved wooden gateways (kapu) create a cultural landscape of genuine originality deep in the forested hills of eastern Transylvania.

Insider tip — The carbon-dioxide baths are virtually unknown in Western Europe — a unique medical experience.
