Ust-Kachka Resort on the Kama river 52 kilometres from Perm is the largest and most developed thermal spa complex in the Ural region, drawing on exceptionally mineralised chloride sodium brines — among the most concentrated in Russia — from Permian salt deposits that gave the geological period its name. Founded in 1944, the resort evolved into a major sanatorium and recreational facility serving the industrial cities of the Ural region, and today offers a comprehensive range of balneological and wellness facilities. The Kama river, one of the great rivers of Russia, provides a beautiful natural setting of reflective water and birch forests typical of the Ural landscape. The proximity of Perm, a major Ural city with an excellent art gallery and connections to the Perm-36 Gulag museum site, gives the resort access to significant cultural resources.
