Terme Rogaška

Terme Rogaška is one of Central Europe's most prestigious mineral spa resorts, located in Rogaška Slatina in the Haloze hills of eastern Slovenia, where the Donat Mg mineral spring — one of the world's most magnesium-rich naturally carbonated mineral waters, containing up to 1,000 mg/l of magnesium — has been part of a thermal tradition since the 17th century. The Donat Mg spring's extraordinary mineral concentration attracted the Habsburg Imperial court — Emperor Franz I and later Franz Joseph I were among its distinguished visitors — and made Rogaška one of the most fashionable cure resorts of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Today Terme Rogaška continues to offer formal spa programmes using the Donat Mg water alongside modern wellness facilities in a setting of elegant neoclassical spa architecture dating from the 19th century and the interwar period. The surrounding Haloze wine landscape, the nearby Olimje Franciscan monastery with its 17th-century pharmacy (one of the oldest surviving apothecaries in Europe), and the Kozjansko Regional Park create a rich cultural context for one of Slovenia's most historically distinguished thermal destinations.
