Terme Dolenjske Toplice

Dolenjske Toplice, in the Dolenjska region of southeastern Slovenia in the forested Krizna Jama karst landscape, is one of the oldest and most distinguished thermal spa towns in Slovenia, its calcium-rich thermal spring waters documented since the sixteenth century and the subject of scientific balneological study since the eighteenth century when Empress Maria Theresa established the royal spa tradition of the Habsburg lands. Terme Dolenjske Toplice draws on calcium-rich sulfurous thermal waters from the karst geological formations of the southeastern Slovenian limestone plateau, emerging at temperatures around 36 degrees Celsius to feed the indoor and outdoor pools of a comprehensive spa resort set in pristine Dolenjska riverside forest. The Krizna Jama cave system with its extraordinary underground lakes and ancient cave bear remains, the traditional Slovenian wine-growing culture of the Dolenjska region producing the distinctive Cviček light red wine, and the forested Kocevski Rog wilderness of Dolenjska with its extraordinary biodiversity create a richly natural and historically distinguished spa destination in southeastern Slovenia.
