First recorded in writing in 1376, the small town of Rajecké Teplice in the Žilina region already appeared on 14th-century maps under the name Thermae. The Lietava estate, which then encompassed the spring and its surroundings, saw its first facilities built in the 17th century — a bathhouse and an inn for well-off guests — before a real expansion took hold at the end of the 18th century.
Today, the Aphrodite spa complex carries that history forward with a design inspired by ancient Greece: eleven indoor and outdoor pools lined with columns, mosaics, and statues dedicated to the goddess it's named after. The water, rich in calcium and magnesium ions, flows at around 38°C and feeds this palace-like complex, set among the pines of the Rajčianka valley.
