Pong Dueat Geyser Hot Spring

Pong Dueat Hot Spring Geyser is a natural geothermal area in the San Kamphaeng Hot Springs district of Chiang Mai Province, where Thailand's most powerful naturally occurring hot spring geyser shoots boiling water up to a metre into the air from a calcium carbonate mound built up by mineral-rich geothermal water over centuries. The site — formally a national park reserve (San Kamphaeng Mineral Spring) — features multiple geothermal pools, fountains, and streams maintained at high temperatures by volcanic heat from the Chiang Mai geothermal field, creating a landscape of steaming geological activity in a setting of northern Thai mountain forest. Visitors can walk through the steaming geyser field, observe the dramatic Pong Dueat central geyser, and bathe in cooled downstream pools where the calcium-rich geothermal water has dropped to comfortable temperatures — an experience of natural geological drama quite unlike the developed spa environments of southern Thailand. The San Kamphaeng mineral spring area's proximity to Chiang Mai (approximately 40 km) and its position on the route to the Bo Sang umbrella village and Sankamphaeng handicraft corridor make it an easily combined natural thermal and cultural day excursion from Thailand's northern cultural capital.
