Phrygian Thermal Spa

Rising from the volcanic sub-soil of Gazlıgöl, in the ancient Phrygian heartland of west-central Turkey, this hammam draws on a landscape steeped in history. The surrounding plateau, once traversed by Phrygian caravans, lends the site a mythological grandeur that few thermal destinations in the country can match. The bicarbonate water emerges at 41 °C, producing a silky sensation on the skin characteristic of strongly alkaline springs — the pH reaches a notable 9.1, among the highest in the region. This pronounced alkalinity gives the water a distinctive softness, long appreciated by local bathers who describe immersion as a gradual, almost weightless unwinding of tension.
