Golemezli Thermal flows near Denizli, a city whose immediate surroundings contain one of the world's most extraordinary geological spectacles — the UNESCO World Heritage Pamukkale travertine terraces and the ancient city of Hierapolis, where millennia of calcium-carbonate-saturated thermal water have built a cascading landscape of white mineral terraces, turquoise pools, and petrified waterfalls that appear from a distance like a hillside covered in fresh snow, an appearance that gave the site its Turkish name Pamukkale ('Cotton Castle').
