Gazlıgöl, whose name means 'Gassy Lake' in Turkish, is a natural geothermal and carbonated spring site in Afyonkarahisar province, Anatolia, where naturally sparkling bicarbonate- and carbonic acid-rich water creates effervescent thermal pools with a distinctive champagne-like quality. The carbonation of the spring water creates a tingling sensation on the skin and is traditionally associated with cardiovascular and digestive benefits in Turkish balneological tradition. The site sits in the mineral-rich Afyon plateau, one of Turkey's most prolific thermal spring regions, famous for its opium poppy cultivation, white marble, and the spectacular Ottoman-era Afyon citadel.
