The Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia, is one of America's oldest and most distinguished thermal resort hotels, continuously welcoming guests since 1766 in the Allegheny Mountains of the Appalachian highlands where chloride-rich and bicarbonate-rich spring waters have drawn American presidents, industrialists, and society figures across more than two and a half centuries of continuous thermal bathing tradition. The historic Bath Houses on the resort grounds channel warm mineral waters into traditional soaking tubs in the manner of eighteenth and nineteenth-century American thermal cure, connecting guests directly to the resort culture of the young United States where taking the waters was both a medical prescription and a social institution of the highest order. The surrounding Allegheny Mountain landscape is at its most spectacular in mid-October, when Appalachian fall foliage transforms the hillsides into tapestries of crimson, amber, and gold widely regarded as among the finest autumn colour displays in the entire eastern United States.

Insider tip — Even without staying at the Omni Homestead (very expensive), the historic baths in the Bath Houses are accessible by the hour. Autumn in the Virginia Appalachians (mid-October) is one of the most beautiful natural spectacles in the USA. Route US-220 between Staunton and the hot springs is one of the loveliest country roads in Virginia.
