Hot Well Dunes is a recreation area and natural hot spring site managed by the Bureau of Land Management, located southeast of Safford in the Gila Valley of southeastern Arizona. Two artesian wells tap into the geothermally heated aquifer below the Sonoran Desert, producing chloride-rich warm water that feeds a pair of concrete soaking tubs maintained for public use. The adjacent dunes and desert landscape of the Gila Valley provide a wonderfully incongruous backdrop to the steaming pools, particularly dramatic at sunrise and sunset. Hot Well Dunes is a popular destination for ATV enthusiasts, birders, and hot spring aficionados, offering a free and accessible desert thermal experience in one of Arizona's most scenic and remote corners.
