Named in 1881 after prospector Robert W. Bagby, these springs had already been used by Native peoples for generations. In the late 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps built the first bathhouse, fitted with tubs hollowed out of long cedar logs. A fire destroyed the original wooden structures in 1979, and the volunteer group Friends of Bagby rebuilt them between 1983 and 1986.

The site features hand-hewn cedar log tubs fed by 136°F spring water, diluted to soaking temperature. Arrive early on weekdays to secure a private tub; weekends draw large crowds from Portland. Pack out all trash as this backcountry site has no waste facilities.
