Pipestone Hot Springs

Pipestone Hot Springs emerges from the rocky terrain near Whitehall, a small ranching community in southwestern Montana where the Jefferson River Valley meets the flanks of the Tobacco Root Mountains. This natural hot spring surfaces amid a landscape of grass, sage, and exposed granite — a quietly dramatic setting typical of Montana's lesser-known geothermal pockets.

The spring discharges silica-rich water at 38 °C, delivering a warmly enveloping soak. Silica, leached from deep volcanic and metamorphic rock, imparts a characteristic smooth, almost velvety texture to the water that bathers often notice immediately. The pH of 7.2 is near-neutral, making the experience gentle and pleasant.
