Utoro Onsen is a hot spring resort area on the western coast of the Shiretoko Peninsula in Shari Town, Shiretoko County, Hokkaido, adjacent to Utoro Port and within the Shiretoko National Park inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005 for its exceptional marine and terrestrial ecosystem where the southernmost seasonal sea ice in the Northern Hemisphere supports extraordinary biodiversity. The Shiretoko Peninsula, described as the end of the earth in Ainu, is one of the last great wilderness areas in Japan, home to brown bears, Steller's sea eagles, and rare marine mammals including Steller sea lions, and its hot spring resort provides the base from which visitors explore this pristine and wild landscape of volcanic peaks, old-growth forest, and ice-fringed shores. The communal bath facility Yugaiten-no-Yu within the Utoro resort area offers bathers direct views across the Sea of Okhotsk, creating an immersive experience where the warmth of volcanic thermal waters contrasts with the vast cold ocean and the spectacular sunsets that make Shiretoko one of the eight scenic views of the peninsula.
