Onsen-ji (温泉寺) is a Buddhist temple belonging to the Rinzai school of Japanese Zen, located in the city of Suwa, Nagano, Japan. Its main image is a statue of Yakushi Nyōrai. The temple is located a 15-minute walk from Kami-Suwa Station.
Insider tip — Kami-Suwa Onsen lines the northern shore of Lake Suwa in Nagano Prefecture, one of Japan's few hot-spring resort areas set directly beside a large body of water. Bicarbonate-rich waters are gentle on skin and the lakeside scenery provides a serene backdrop for outdoor baths that seem to merge with the horizon. Winter brings the spectacular shimenawa rope ice bridges across the lake when conditions are cold enough to freeze. The nearby Suwa Taisha, one of Japan's oldest shrines, lends the area a deep spiritual character.
