Kurehayama Onsen was a former hot spring facility in the Kurehayama area of Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture, positioned on a hilltop at approximately 100 meters elevation and originally operated as a health center serving not only adult bathers but also children who visited on school excursions and summer youth activities, with amenities including a restaurant, souvenir shop, game center, pool, and large communal bath. Kurehayama hill in central Toyama provides scenic views over the city and serves as a popular hiking destination, and the hot spring health center that once occupied the summit combined the recreational appeal of the hilltop location with thermal bathing facilities that made it a popular all-ages family destination. Though the facility has since closed, its memory reflects the tradition of integrating hot spring bathing with broader recreational and educational programming that characterized many Japanese health centers during their operational peak in the late twentieth century.

Insider tip — Kurehayama Onsen sits on Mount Kureha overlooking Toyama city and the dramatic backdrop of the Tateyama mountain range — part of the Northern Japan Alps that rise to over 3,000 metres directly behind the Toyama plain. The springs serve a city famous for its traditional medicine industry and its position at the gateway to the spectacular Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route, where bathers can enjoy views across Toyama Bay to one of Japan's most dramatic mountain landscapes.
