Toi Onsen is one of three hot spring areas in the Toi district of Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, on the western coast of the Izu Peninsula facing Suruga Bay, operated as part of the integrated Izu City Toi Hot Spring Service alongside the smaller Kotoi and Yagisawa springs, together providing diverse thermal bathing options to visitors of this scenic western Izu coastline. The Toi district is known for its gold mine, the Toi Gold Mine that operated during the Edo period and is now open to visitors as a historical museum, giving the area an additional cultural heritage dimension alongside its coastal hot spring tradition. The mineral waters of Toi Onsen complement the natural beauty of the western Izu coast, where the deeply indented bays, fishing villages, and subtropical vegetation of the Pacific-facing shoreline create a distinctly different atmosphere from the more heavily developed eastern Izu resort corridor between Atami and Shimoda.
