Ōdaira Onsen is a hot spring in the Odaira area of Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture, one of the celebrated Yonezawa Eight Hot Springs cluster whose single-inn establishment Takimiya Ryokan is a member of the Onsen Yonezawa Hachiyukai association that preserves and promotes the traditional hot spring culture of the Yonezawa basin in the Ou Mountains of southern Yamagata. Yonezawa, historically the castle town of the powerful Date clan before their transfer to the Sendai domain, preserves a proud samurai heritage centered on the Uesugi Shrine and the memory of Uesugi Kenshin, the legendary Sengoku-period warlord, and its mountain hot springs have long provided recreational bathing to the residents of this historically distinguished city. The Odaira Onsen's membership in the Yonezawa Eight Hot Springs association connects it to a distinguished thermal heritage in which each of the eight springs offers a distinct mineral character and setting within the volcanic mountain landscape surrounding Yonezawa City.
