Stimulating — wakes the body and boosts circulation.
Rich in active gases or metals — a strong mineral character.
Mineralised water — eases movement and joints.
Shiramizu Mineral Spring in Yufu City, Oita, is one of Japan's rarest thermal finds—a pure natural carbonated spring (tanjun CO2 spring) where dissolved carbon dioxide concentration is so exceptional that surrounding rocks and soil are bleached white by mineral precipitation, giving the spring its name: White Water, a geological marvel visible at a glance. Emerging at the foot of Kurodake (1,586 m) in the Kuju mountain range, this kosen (cold mineral spring) is known locally as Ramune Water for its resemblance to Japan's famous carbonated soft drink, and its CO2-rich waters are considered safe and beneficial to drink as well as bathe in, offering a complete mineral spring experience. This extraordinary geological curiosity combines access to Kurodake's volcanic summit trail with one of Japan's most scientifically unusual and visually striking mineral springs.
