The Ağzıkarahan Baths form part of the Ağzıkara Han, one of the finest surviving Seljuk caravanserais in Anatolia, built in 1235 under Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I on the ancient Silk Road between Aksaray and Nevşehir in central Turkey. The Ağzıkara Han's elegant stone portal, spacious courtyard, and covered hall served thousands of merchants, pilgrims, and officials crossing the Anatolian plateau, and its integrated hammam allowed travellers to perform the ritual ablutions and thorough bathing required by Islamic practice after days of dusty road travel. These caravanserai baths exemplify the Seljuk philosophy of comprehensive hospitality infrastructure, providing for the bodily, spiritual, and commercial needs of every traveller on the empire's arterial routes.
